The newly created Associated Carrier Group has announced that it will market its first handset as an organization: Kyocera's Slider Remix KX5.
The Associated Carrier Group (ACG), formed in January of this year, is an alliance of independent tier two and tier three wireless carriers. The ACG was formed to give its member carriers greater buying and marketing power to stand up against the larger tier one carriers. The ACG should cut costs for its members through its economies of scale, meaning the ACG's members greater combined buying power will reduce handset costs to the individual carriers, which should eventually mean savings for consumers. The alliance will also mean that the carriers will get access to more exclusive handsets. The Associated Carrier Group's members include Bluegrass Cellular, Carolina West Wireless, Cellcom, Cellular South, First Cellular of Southern Illinois, and Midwest Wireless.
The Kyocera KX5 is a CDMA slider handset featuring a 1.3 megapixel camera, 262k color TFT LCD screen, and 16Mb of on board memory. The Kyocera KX5 is also BREW compatible, and can play media files from microSD/Transflash memory cards.
The Associated Carrier Group is the first organization to offer the Kyocera Slider Remix KX5 to consumers.
