Games consoles like the PlayStation3 and Xbox 360 are set to become the main drivers of digital content in thehome by 2012. That's according to a new report from ABIResearch.
Some 184million household devices will be handling digital content like movies and MP3sin US homes by 2012, with consoles accounting for 85 per cent of that number.
"The manufacturers areaiming to make their consoles more like media centre devices, rather than justbeing for gaming," commented Steve Wilson, analyst at ABI.
"The advantage theyhave is market share: their products ship in large volumes. The big question iswhether gamers will actually make use of this added functionality built intotheir consoles," he added.
