Sharp have announced the LC-45GD1 AQUOS 45V-Inch Digital High-Definition LCD TV, the industry’s largest LCD model, and featuring a full-spec high-definition panel of 6.22 million dots (1,920 H x 1,080 V x RGB), the industry’s highest level in a 45V-inch size. This model will be supplied from their Kameyama Plant, the world’s first integrated production facility for LCD TVs—from fabricating the LCD panel to final assembly.
As terrestrial digital TV broadcasting begins and coverage areas expand, the adoption of the full-spec high-definition panel in the LC-45GD1 will enable users to enjoy life-like, high-definition images from high-resolution digital high-definition (HDTV) broadcasts on an impressively large screen.
Sharp has also developed new LCD panel driver ICs and digital imaging ICs for enhanced picture quality, furthering the evolution of the New AQUOS Platform*4 designed to maximize the performance of the full-spec high-definition panel.
Also, even with the large 45V-inch screen, the LC-45GD1 boasts a space-saving design 108.4 cm in width with a thin profile of 8.65 cm*5, and weighing only 30.5 kg*6, the lightest in its class. In addition to the superb environmental performance users have come to expect from the AQUOS, such as low power consumption of 315 W and a backlight with a long service life of approx. 60,000 hours*7, Sharp is solidifying its place as the world leader in flat-panel TVs that surpass other video systems in image quality and environmental performance, including adopting materials designed to facilitate recycling.

*1 “V-inch” (for example, “45V-inch”) is a measure of the true size of the flat TV screen, standardizing on the length of the diagonal dimension of the actual viewing area. [Note that the “inch” measurement as used for conventional CRT-based TV picture tubes (for example, “32-inch”) does not refer to the diagonal dimension of the screen that is actually viewable, but rather to the corner-to-corner dimension of the outside diameter of the picture tube (CRT)].
*2 Current as of June 14, 2004; in digital high-definition televisions based on LCD panels.
*3 The approximate figure of 6.22 million represents the total number of dots (sub-pixels) for the three RGB colors in the 1920(H)x1080(V)-pixel display.
*4 An intelligent system built around a core of a proprietary Sharp Advanced Super View LCD panel that integrates at a high order high image quality, high audio quality, superb environmental performance including energy efficiency, long service life, etc., and networkability (such as compatibility with memory cards).
*5 Not including stand and speaker sections.
*6 Not including separate tuner section.
*7 A measure of the time until screen brightness declines by half under continuous viewing in a room at 25°C with screen brightness in Standard mode.
