Popular comedy actors lend their voices to Matt Hazard's comeback. By Kris Pigna, 10/27/2008
Providing the voice of Hazard himself will be Will Arnett, who's probably best known for his role in Arrested Development. Neil Patrick Harris (who's probably best known these days from How I Met Your Mother and the Harold and Kumar flicks) will play Wallace "Wally" Wellesley, the owner of videogame publisher "Marathon Megasoft." As the game's storyline goes, Hazard is a washed-up action game star who gets a second chance at fame when Wellesley hires him for a new videogame (within the videogame). But then something -- naturally -- goes awry, and it's discovered that someone is using the game to try and kill Hazard in "real life" (is this all meta enough for you?).
"Eat Lead parodies some of the most beloved genres of games and pop culture, so it was important that we find the perfect voice talent to bring both Matt Hazard and Wallace Wellesley to life," said Pete Andrew, vice president of product development for D3Publisher in North America. "Both Will and Neil are life long videogamers and their experiences playing games combined with their comedic genius and superb voice talent will make Eat Lead a must-have title for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3."
To get an idea of the sort of satire D3 is going for, you need only look at the litany of phony games they manufactured to fill in Hazard's history -- including "Matt Hazard 3D," "Haz-Matt Carts," and "You Only Live 1317 Times". As for his first real game, Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard is set for release in the first quarter of 2009.
