So, Uh, Yeah...We Can't Actually Update Our Sites

Sprint/Cogent messing with our Internets. By Sam Kennedy, 10/31/2008

Maybe you haven't even noticed (most of you are probably out Trick-or-Treating or playing Dead Space right about now), but new updates have been a bit slow and/or sparse on 1UP's sites the past day or so. Well, we're not slacking off (yet -- today was her last day); it's because Sprint Nextel (our corporate network provider) cut its connection with Cogent (the host of 1UP's, and a good chunk of the Internet's, websites), making it impossible for us to access our sites from work. If your company also uses Sprint for its Internet access you won't be able to access 1UP either -- then again, that would mean you wouldn't be able to read this right now, so why am I even bothering to mention it?

Anyway, this is why the 1UP Show is way late today (in fact, it may not even go up until tomorrow at this rate). And this is why a lot of other content isn't appearing on the site right now. We've had a bunch of people posting things from their own homes (Phil and crew have been keeping the news section updated this way), but it's definitely been a hassle.

We're working on some other solutions to regain access to our sites at work next week, just in case Sprint and Cogent can't come to some sort of agreement, but please bear with us in the meantime. If you're interested in reading more about this Sprint/Cogent clusterf***, check out our sister site PC Magazine's story on the subject. They at least can access their sites!
