Yesterday Packard Bell invited us along to Kensington鈥檚 prestigious Roof Gardens to witness the rebirth of the company, and also to take a look at their latest range of laptops, including the EasyNote TR85, TJ and NJ.
The EasyNote TR85 is the most visually arresting of all the laptops. Co-designed by Pininfarina, the laptop constitutes the high end of the EasyNote range.
The 15.6-inch Super-TFT, edge to edge glass screen is LED backlit which provides a sharp, bright picture and is also less resource intensive than other types of panel. It also features a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio which suits DVD watching.
The EasyNote TR85鈥檚 keyboard proved comfortable to use and was satisfactorly mounted on the chassis which means little flex during typing. The touchpad supports multi-gesture inputs, meaning that you can use two fingers to zoom into photos and navigate through web pages with ease.
Features of the EasyNote TR85 include a one-touch backup button, which will back up your hard drive at the touch of a button, a PowerSave key to make sure you鈥檙e getting the most from your battery and also a touchpad lock key which locks the touchpad when you鈥檙e using an external mouse.
Finally a Dolby Sound Ramp dominates the area under the EasyNote TR85鈥檚 screen and, although we didn鈥檛 hear it ourselves, should provide decent sound quality for your music and films.
Next up was the EasyNote TJ, which is being pitted as an all rounder suited to all the family. It shares many of the features of the EasyNote TR85, such as the 15.6-inch Super-TFT screen with LED backlighting and a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. As well as the one touch backup, PowerSave and touchpad lock buttons.
The EasyNote TJ also boasts an HDMI out port for hooking the laptop up to an external high definition monitor and some models will come with an nVidia GeForce G105M or ATi Mobility Radeon HD4570 graphics card, which suit multimedia tasks and also light to medium gaming.
The 14-inch EasyNote NJ represents a departure from the above laptops in that it is a far more portable laptop. Not only is the screen size smaller, but the EasyNote NJ also weighs in at only 2.4kg, so shouldn鈥檛 prove too much of a handful on the commute.
Specs are surprisingly high, with a nVidia GeForce G105M GPU and 512MB of dedicated memory an option, along with a Blu-ray drive for watching high definition films. As with all the above models, the EasyNote NJ also features the one touch back up, touchpad lock and PowerSave touch sensitive keys.
Prices for all the laptops will vary depending on specification, but the EasyNote TR85 is likely to start at 拢599 (inc. VAT), the NJ 拢499 (inc. VAT) and the TJ 拢449 (inc. VAT). While the latter two will be available come June, you鈥檒l have to wait until July for the TR85.
