    Brand-New Footage of Shatter

Check out this all-new direct feed footage from the upcoming PSN title Shatter. By David Ellis, 06/29/2009

One of the most pleasant surprises at this year's E3 was the viral breakout of a little known PSN game called Shatter. Tucked away in an art exhibit in a no man's land, Shatter started gaining word of mouth among several of the press on the last day of E3 2009. Playing conditions at this lone kiosk were less then ideal yet throughout the day word kept spreading about this trippy little title.

For those of you who don't know, Shatter is a mixture of the classic Breakout-style games with elements of vertical and horizontal shoot 'em ups thrown in for variety. Levels alternate between vertical and horizontal and players have to destroy all the blocks on each zone before moving onto the next. The radical change to this classic formula comes into play by the sonic waves that players can fire by pressing either the left or right shoulder buttons. One beams pushes items away from you while the other sucks them towards you. Destroyed blocks drop a variety of power-up in additional to tiny orbs that can either be deflected like laser beams or absorbed. Absorbed orbs are used to fill up an energy tank that can be unleashed in a torrent of laser fire.

The other unique part of Shatter is the inclusion of boss battles at the end of level. The above exclusive video shows off a battle against the fourth boss in the game called Bad Bat. This fight is particularly interesting because unlike previous bosses in the game who are animal-like in the design this enemy not only shoots back, but also posses a sonic weapon that can adjust the trajectory of items on screen.

Shatter is expected to be released on the Playstation Network sometime this summer. Stay tuned to 1UP.com for future updates on this interesting PSN title. It might make for a good episode of Game Night don't you think?
