Ubisoft Reveals New Assassin's Creed Lineage Details

New plot info for Assassin's Creed II and things that were discarded from the first game. By Mike Nelson, 07/24/2009

Today at Comic-Con's Assassin's Creed II: Video Games and Hollywood Converge panel, Ubisoft shed a few details regarding its upcoming prequel film, Assassin's Creed Lineage. Outside of the announced release date of Holiday 2009, the other news that was told was not news, but really the process of what is involved in bringing the story of Assassin's Creed 2 to film -- or rather how much of the movie is being shot on green screen in the vein of 300 and Sin City. The plot will be centered around the father of Assassin's Creed 2's main character, Giovanni, and is designed to set up the events of the game.

Towards the end of their panel the floor was opened to Q&A, with a few interesting questions coming from the audience -- and answers coming from Ubisoft. For one, the mysterious symbols that appeared at the end of the first game "do have a meaning, but not the one you think it means," explained Ubisoft's Cory May. Now aren't you glad you spent all that time on Wikipedia trying to figure all that stuff out? Other concerns where about when this game would be taking place -- Ubisoft revealed that Assassin's Creed 2 will start at the moment part 1 ended.

Additionally, it was confirmed that there will be around 15 different types of assassination missions since "we threw out the old system of investigating time and time again," stated May during the panel. It was also revealed that the player can expect to encounter other historical figures besides Leonardo Di Vinci to help Etcio with his plan for revenge, so if you're up to speed on your history books, you might be able to pick a historical figure or two that felt like helping out assassins.

Assassin's Creed 2 is still set for a holiday release this year.
