First phone manufacturer to go for the laptop

Well, Nokia made good on that promise to start making lappys - the Finnish manufacturer has just announced the Booklet 3G, a Windows-based mini-laptop that is a total first for mobile makers.

It's powered by an Intel Atom processor and comes with an HDMI port for HD video on a big screen, webcam, SD card slot. The Booklet is just over two centimetres thick with a 10-inch display, and weighs in at a none too shabby 1.25kgs.

So far, so usual. At least you get the Ovi integration - Nokia's excellent Ovi Maps widget works with A-GPS to fix your location and get access to tons of cool location-based features, like what sort of entertainment is in any address you punch in. As well, you'll get the other Ovi apps like the Nokia Music Store, or the new and improved Ovi Suite, to sync data with your Nokia phone or back it up in the 'cloud'.

Availability and pricing will be announced at Nokia World, Sep 2-3. Let's see if phone manufacturers doing computers works better than laptop makers making phones (it wouldn't be hard).
