    Microsoft launches OneApp service

    Microsoft launches OneApp service

    26 August 2009

One-stop shop app includes cloud service

Microsoft, after its recent Nokia-related announcement, has now announced OneApp, a software application that gives your mobile the ability to run various mobile apps such as Facebook, Windows Live Messenger, Twitter and Mobile Wallet.

'OneApp is a technology that is going to help people do things they couldn't do before - anything from paying their bills to helping diagnose their health issues or just staying connected with friends and family,' Amit Mital, corporate VP of Microsoft's Unlimited Potential Group and Startup Business Accelerator said.

A small program that takes very little space, it also features a cloud service that allows you to access apps that are not stored on your phone.

'When people see these apps running on a feature phone, their eyes light up. It's pretty exciting. What we're letting you do is get access to the applications and services you want from a device you already own. If you don't own a PC, or you share a PC, your mobile phone may be your first or only computing device,' said Tim McDonough, Microsoft 's senior director of Mobile Product Management.

Release details are to be confirmed but will initially be targeted at emerging markets.
