    Description
In the collection of National Palace Museum, Taibei Lofty Lushan Mountain was painted in 1467, as a gift to his teacher’s 70th birthday (Chen Kuan). This scenery in the painting is Wulaofeng valley (name is taken from Five Old Man Hill). Shen Zhou compared the loftiness of the mountain to the wisdom and morals of his teacher. The pine is an emblem of longevity. Mountain Lushan is located in the northern part of Jiangxi Province, faces the Yangtze River to the north and borders on the east with the largest fresh water lake in China, Poyang Lake. The mountain consists of 99 peaks, the tallest being Dahanyang, rising to the height of 1474 meters (4836 feet) above sea level. Around the mountain all the time thick clouds and mist are floating. It is said it’s hard to know true face of it. This picturesque scenery was an inspiration for many Chinese poets. Wulaofeng Peak, 1,358m above sea level, stands in the southeast part of the mountain by Poyang Lake. The side facing the lake is a huge perilous precipice. Standing on the summit of the peak, one may overlook the rolling ridges of the mountain and the vast water of Poyang Lake or enjoy the wonderful scene of the sunrise and the seas of clouds.
