Parents have only one chance to capture their baby's first steps in life. Whether you're a new parent or you're just interested in learning about photographing infants, here are some tips for capturing great moments. Instructions Difficulty: Moderate Things You'll Need Camera Baby Parents or close family members Sentimental scenery Steps 1 Step One Click to enlarge First, try getting down to your baby's level when taking the pictures. By aligning your camera with your baby, you can capture the moment from your infant's perspective. Once you have a few baby pictures from this angle, move around and find new and interesting angles to give pictures a different feel. 2 Step Two Click to enlarge Avoid using bright sunny days outdoors as your setting. The bright light will give deep unflattering shadows to the face of the baby or cause them to squint in the picture. If you still plan on being outside try opting for a more overcast day or find a nicely shaded area. 3 Step Three Try to use as much natural light as possible. It will give a softer more pleasant appearance to the child. 4 Step Four Click to enlarge If you are going to use a flash you may need to divert the baby's attention so the child looks away from the flash. This will help avoid red-eye effect. 5 Step Five Click to enlarge Include natural moments with the child's family and friends in your pictures. Encourage a parent or grandparent to play with the child or have a sibling pose while holding the newborn. 6 Step Six Click to enlarge Try to use very simple backgrounds in your baby pictures. Minimize clutter by selecting a solid color blanket or a single stuffed animal for your infant. This keeps the baby as the main focus of your picture. 7 Step Seven Pay attention to your baby's schedule. A well rested, well fed baby will be more cooperative, thus giving you better photographs.
