The holidays are over. Now what do you do with all those photos sitting on your digital cameras?
Maybe you have photos from last year's vacation or the kids' birthdays.
Don't let those memories you've captured waste away and don't take the chance that your photos are lost forever due to a faulty media storage card. Always back up your photos.
You will want to back up all of your photos. Most serious and professional photographers usually make several back-up copies of their photographs. If you are not a die-hard photographer you will still want to make a back up of all your precious photos.Creating a new folder on your desktop
You will need to refer to your owner's manual for information regarding copying pictures to CDs and DVDs. Following the instructions that came with your digital camera, upload your photos to your desktop. Oftentimes, the default directory folder will be in your My Pictures folder. I suggest saving them to a file folder on your desktop so that you can easily find them after they have been uploaded.Naming your folder
After you have created a new folder on your desktop you will have to name it. You can simply name the folder "Photos". When the folder has been created the folder name will be default to New Folder and it will be highlighted in blue. You simply type the name you want and press enter on the keyboard. When text is highlighted in blue you do not have to backspace or delete the letters, you simply type over it. 4 Step Four Click to enlargeBurning to CDs or DVDs
Following your digital camera's manual, upload your photos to your desktop file folder that you have created. If you have a few digital camera media cards loaded with photos, you will want to add all of those photos to the file. After all of your photos are stored in the file folder you can copy them to a CD or DVD. DVD's hold a great deal of information on them than a CD can hold. You will have to use your judgement as to which media you want to copy them to. (Hint: if you have a digital camera that takes more than 5 megabyte-sized photos and you have over 200 photos you should use a DVD if that is an option for you.) Otherwise you can copy your photos to multiple CDs.) 5 Step Five When you have finished copying your photos to CDs or DVDs be sure to label them as accurately as possible for future reference. You can write directly on the top side of the DVD or CD with a permanent marker or of you have a printer or DVD or CD burner that prints directly on the disc media you can use that device to label these discs. Details are important when labeling so that you can easily find the photos you are looking for when you need them in the future. Store your copies in a book or empty disc spindle. Now you can take the file folder you created and drop and drag it to your My Photos folder. (Most times this folder is located in the My Documents folder.) Now you have two back-up copies. One on your hard drive and one on discs. (Note: Most professionals prefer to make at least two back-ups on discs.) 6 Step Six Click to enlargeSD card. (Secure Digital Card).
Now that your photos have been backed up, you can delete from your digital camera's media card. Media cards can go bad so it is never a good idea to leave your photos on them. I have personally had a media card go bad while it was in the camera. I lost some precious photos that I had taken just the day before the card went bad. 7 Step Seven Click to enlargeWalgreens, Walmart, SnapFish.com, Kodak.com, etc.
Now for some fun ideas. You can email photos to friends and family. You can upload photos to places like Walgreens.com and have those photos printed at a store located near a family member or friend's home in another state. You can even pay for the photo development so your friend or family member does not have to. 8 Step Eight You can put your photos into a slide show using computer software such as Nero. Music can be added with special transition effects. So, your photos can dribble down the screen like wet paint or they can whoosh across like a tornado. 9 Step Nine Click to enlarge12 x 12 Shadow box frame.
You might like to take a collection of your favorite photos and make them into a small 8 x 8 scrapbook using embellishments and adding phrases or sayings. This could be given as a gift. You could also make a 12 x 12 scrapbook page and frame it as a gift. Craft stores sell scrapbook frames for just this purpose. Use your imagination when display life's memories. Collage frames are great too to display photos of family or even wildlife photographs you may have taken. You can even create a family newsletter incorporating your photos, save the newsletter in a word document and email to your family. For those who do not own a computer, you can print out the newsletter and mail it using the United States Postal Service. For those family members who do not have MS Word to view the newsletter, they can download an MS Word viewer for free at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=95E24C87-8732-48D5-8689-AB826E7B8FDF&displaylang=en| CUSTOMER SERVICE | SHOPPING HELP | MY ACCOUNT | COMPANY INFO | TOOLS & RESOURCES |
