How to Copy Photos from a Camera to your Computer

Step 1:
First, decide which media you will use for the transfer to your computer. IF USING A MEDIA CARD:Remove this card from your camera. Usually done by lightly pushing in and then grasping the card. Carefully lifting out and not touching the metallic part.

Step 2:
Place the media card into a reader of some type, such as a built in one in your computer or printer.

Step 3:
Wait for the file transfer selection menu to come up. Use the software of your choice, most commonly Windows Camera and Scanner Transfer Wizard or some sort of CD burning software.

Step 4:
Name the folder that you will transfer the pictures to by event, date or both. Usually this will be kept under the My pictures folder in the computer. You can then store indefinitely on your computer as long as space allows.

Step 5:
IF TRANSFERRING DIRECTLY FROM A CAMERA:Make sure software is installed from the CD that came with the camer.

Step 6:
Connect the USB cable, and the computer should detect the new hardware or USB device appropriately.

Step 7:
When the software comes up, follow the prompts on your screen. If it does not start, try double clicking on it in your start menu or on a shortcut on your desktop. For example, it will be "Kodak" or "Canon." Usually named by the camera manufacturer.If you do not have the software, download it from any of the website links listed below this article. Click on "support" or "drivers and downloads."

Step 8:
Steps 3 & 4 are the same or similar. However, you will probably store photos in the camera's folder instead. Again, this is listed by the manufacturer and sometimes the date.

Step 9:
WANT A CD OR OTHER PHOTO SERVICES?You can also upload your photos to walmart.com, target.com, snapfish.com, kmart.com, walgreens.com or any other photo finishing outlet. Then, check the box for you to get a CD of your photos (if desired). You can also make prints and gifts of many varieties.Follow the on-screen prompts. This may take 1-2 hours or more, depending on how many photos you have.

Step 10:
If you are downloading, you can pick up at the store either in 1 hour or a few days, or have them sent to you or another address.
