Step 1:
Decide which iPod you want. There are an ever-changing, ever-improving number and variety of them, but you will have to decide whether you want video or not, the storage capacity you want and the size of the unit you want to carry.
Step 2:
Test drive some iPods. Go to a local electronics store and bring some headphones so you can fool around with the controls, carry it and get a sense for which model you’re comfortable with.
Step 3:
Shop around local stores. When you’re test driving them, make sure to jot down the prices local stores offer and ask if there are any major sales coming up.
Step 4:
Shop around online. Many online retailers can often meet or beat local stores. The disadvantage is returns and servicing are more difficult without a local store to go through.
Step 5:
Think about buying a refurbished iPod. Refurbished iPods are units that have been returned because of damage or malfunction and fixed for resale. Often, the damage was minimal and the fixes effective, but it is a risk.
Step 6:
Buy your iPod. After weighing all of your options, select a retailer and purchase your new iPod.
